Some beverage guidance from Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, The Gut Health MD

We all know that we need a diversity of plants in order to create a healthy microbiome. We have read about Dr B's plant points and the importance of fiber - well, at least we hope everyone has! But what about beverages?!?! What are some of the most important beverages for our microbiome? Here are two great videos from Dr B about which 5 beverages he drinks for his own microbiome ... and one just may surprise you!

Dr. Will Bulsiewicz — most people call him Dr. B is a triple board-certified gastroenterologist, internationally recognized gut health speaker and a 3 time New York Times bestselling author of Fiber Fueled and Plant Powered Plus.

With over two decades of clinical experience and deep expertise in microbiome research and nutrition science, he translates cutting-edge gut health science into practical strategies that actually work in real life. His mission is simple: help you understand what's happening inside your gut, reduce chronic inflammation, and build lasting health from the inside out.

"People always ask me what I eat — almost nobody asks what I drink. But what's in your glass can feed your gut, calm inflammation, and improve symptoms just as much as food does.

I'm a triple board-certified gastroenterologist with 20+ years in medicine, and these are the 5 drinks that have earned a permanent spot in my day — water, coffee, kefir, matcha, and tart cherry juice — walked through glass by glass, from the moment I wake up to my wind-down at night. Each one is doing a specific job, and I break down exactly why in the video.

These 5 drinks map to 3 of the 4 pillars I write about in my new book, Plant Powered Plus: fiber, polyphenols, healthy fats, and fermented foods. Turns out you can drink your way to three of the four."

Surprised about the coffee inclusion?!?! So were we - and we are all so happy for it! Here is a bit more about the why behind including coffee each day for the health of our microbiome.

"Most people think coffee is just caffeine. But as a gastroenterologist, I see something completely different in that morning cup.

Coffee contains over 1,000 bioactive compounds — including soluble fiber, polyphenols, and melanoidins — that reach your colon and feed your gut microbiome. In fact, one study analyzing over 22,000 participants found that of 150+ foods studied, coffee had the single strongest correlation with gut microbiome composition.

But there's a catch. When you drink it matters just as much as whether you drink it. And not everyone should.

I'll walk you through who benefits, who should cut back, and the one timing mistake that could be canceling out coffee's protective effects entirely."
