Meet the Author - Dr. T. Colin Campbell - Whole & The China Study

Updated: Dec 2, 2020

During the month of August, 6D Book Club has been reading Whole by Dr. T. Colin Campbell. Our discussions have been lively and challenging (paradigm shifts do not come easily!) and our community has learned about and shared new ideas from and with one another. On Thursday, 10 September 6D Book Club will host a live video talk with Dr. Campbell via zoom - and we would like to invite you to join us!

This is a unique opportunity to not only listen to Dr. Campbell, but to talk with him as participants will have an opportunity to ask him questions directly. For this reason, spaces are limited so please reserve your spot so that you can take part in this personal chat with the MACDADDY of WFPB!! (in our humble and most respectful opinion)

T. Colin Campbell, PhD is the coauthor of The China Study and is considered by many to be the father of the current WFPB movement in the world. The T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies offers resources, recipes and courses all designed to help further our collective understanding about what it means to practice a Whole Food Plant-Based lifestyle. As Dr. Campbell continues to share his knowledge, advice and guidance with thousands of people throughout the world, his full impact on the health and well-being of the planet as a whole (pun fully intended!) is yet to be fully understood.

In the video below, Dr. T. Colin Campbell shares some of his personal story. And if you would like to sign the petition to nominate him for the Nobel Prize, please click here.

"The China Project

In the early 1980’s, nutritional biochemist T. Colin Campbell, PhD of Cornell University, in partnership with researchers at Oxford University and the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine, embarked upon one of the most comprehensive nutritional studies ever undertaken known as the China Project. China at that time presented researchers with a unique opportunity. The Chinese population tended to live in the same area all their lives and to consume the same diets unique to each region. Their diets (low in fat and high in dietary fiber and plant material) also were in stark contrast to the rich diets of the Western countries. The truly plant-based nature of the rural Chinese diet gave researchers a chance to compare plant-based diets with animal-based diets ... In 2005, T. Colin Campbell, PhD and his son Thomas M. Campbell, MD, shared the China Project findings along with additional research with the world in The China Study. Their best selling book examines the connection between nutrition and heart disease, diabetes, and cancer and the source of nutritional confusion produced by powerful lobbies, government entities, and opportunistic scientists. The China Study is hailed as one of the most important books about diet and health ever written." - from CNS website

"In The China Study, T. Colin Campbell revolutionized the way we think about our food with the evidence that a whole food, plant-based diet is the healthiest way to eat. Now, in Whole, he explains the science behind that evidence, the ways our current scientific paradigm ignores the fascinating complexity of the human body, and why, if we have such overwhelming evidence that everything we think we know about nutrition is wrong, our eating habits haven't changed. Whole is an eye-opening, paradigm-changing journey through cutting-edge thinking on nutrition, a scientific tour de force with powerful implications for our health and for our world." - taken from the book's jacket

What others are saying about Whole - Rethinking the Science of Nutrition by T. Colin Campbell, PhD

"America's premier nutritionist, T. Colin Campbell, with courage and conviction, articulates how the self-serving reductionist paradigm permeates science, medicine, media, big pharma, and philanthropic groups blocking the public from the nutritional truth for optimal health." - Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr., MD, bestselling author of Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease

"Whole makes a convincing case that modern nutrition's focus on single nutrients has led to mass confusion with tragic health consequences. Dr. Campbell's new paradigm will change the way we think about food and, in doing so, could improve the lives of millions of people and save billions of dollars in health care costs." - Brian Wendel, Producer of Forks Over Knives
